“All Things Girls Forgot” is an award-winning poem of mine that pays homage to the unconventional side of girlhood. This poem was inspired by an argument my mother and I got into over losing one of her lifelong rings. I pondered over the materialistic trinket my mother made a companion of and the shame that came with losing it. With losing many things in life and never truly forgetting them, and maybe that’s an untouched part of girlhood: a series of losing, moving on, and shame one truly never forgets.
